Prefect inaugurates the new section of the John Paul II Institute in Madrid

On the 22nd of January the Prefect of the Congregation, Card. Giuseppe Versaldi, inaugurated the new section of the Pontifical John Paul II Theological Institute for the Sciences of Marriage and the Family in Madrid.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by the Prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education, Cardinal Giuseppe Versaldi,  the Apostolic Nuncio, the Archbishop of Madrid and the Vice Chancellor of the section, Cardinal Carlos Osoro, the President of the Catholic University of San Antonio and the executive Vice President of the section, José Luis Mendoza, and the Dean of the section, Manuel Arroba.

In his speech, the Cardinal recalled the dual purpose with which the Institute of John Paul II was established: one dedicated to the sciences of the Family and Marriage as an expression of the development of human and anthropological sciences and another dedicated to the Theology of Marriage and Family.

The Pontifical Theological Institute "John Paul II" for the Sciences of Marriage and the Family was founded with the Apostolic Letter in the form of Motu Proprio of the Supreme Pontiff Francesco Summa familiae cura on 8 Sept. 2017. The Institute has its one Headquarters in Rome, and has six foreign Sections: in the United States (Washington DC), Mexico (México DF, Guadalajara and Monterrey), Spain (Valencia, Madrid, Murcia and Alcalá), in Brazil (Salvador), Benin (Cotonou), India (Changanacherry, Kerala) and associated centers in Lebanon (Beirut) and the Philippines (Bacolod).
